Switched to a minimalist launcher on my GrapheneOS phone, and I LOVE IT. I also set my phone to grayscale, which is another huge improvement.

Since I recently broke my screen protector anyway, I've ordered a matte replacement, which will calm down the bright shininess of the phone even more.

I'm starting to get a handle on how to have one of these smartphone things and still lead a rich life, full of choice and glorious privacy.

The second screen of the launcher is a list of all apps. At the top are the pinned apps, then recently-used apps, then folders I defined. Below those, I can scroll through all apps, or search for an app. Again, the background is off-black, and the font is the same white sans serif. There are no icons or other distracting visual elements.

Working to deGoogle and deApple myself by the end of the year. Mostly involves buying a Fairphone running Murena's /e/OS, building a Linux desktop machine, and replacing apps/services, but the exercise of mapping all of this out alone is already proving to be fun, enlightening, and liberating.

I tried installing skylight.social/ (short form video app that uses the AT Protocol) on my “degoogled” GrapheneOS phone just to see what it's like, and it immediately demanded that I install Google Play services in order to use it

It's possible to sandbox them on Graphene OS and I do have a user account with them for my banking app, but I'm really not interested in using a social app that demands them
