Misery Path<p>So, I sprayed clear coat 3 times today. Now it has to dry through, then the interior can come.<br>Sure, there are a few small dust inclusions in the clear coat. But I'm not going to sand them down any more, they're not that obvious. Cutting the holes for the foot switch and the LED also turned out to be a bit difficult. Ross of Ottawa<p>Working outside for the morning before the heat gets too bad, and the air quality gets irritating. Getting a jack in place to remove a main support beam on the deck, as I shorten its length. </p><p>We have a huge deck with parts that have seen better days, so removing a section lets me repair rotten bits with good wood, while less deck also means more garden/green where it once was. </p><p>Don't need the excess slowly-degrading structure and its maintenance effort. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a></p>

Y⃒̸̷̝̜̙ͥͥͥngmar<p>Pop!</p><p>From the cheap tool section in <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Norfa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Norfa</span></a>. I have a few of their <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Ingco" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Ingco</span></a> brand cheapo tools and so far they haven't disappointed. Basic but not crap and often cheaper than <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/AliExpress" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AliExpress</span></a>.</p><p>Fine for occasional use. I have a lazy tong riveter too but those need something to push against, which means it can't be used for riveting two thin metal sheets together. This one can.</p><p>We'll see how long it lasts. Sebastiaan Ammerlaan 🇳🇱<p>Managed to repair my digital piano. Two of the c's stopped working. Turns out the fix was easy: I used some 9B pencil to rub the connectors on the piano, as they apparently work with graphite. N3VEM<p>Long story short, I have an old, but working, Fire Alarm Control Panel. For those not in the industry, it's basically a fancy purpose built controller for fire stuff, but they also have a bunch of generic inputs and outputs that can be programmed for pretty much whatever.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/HamRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HamRadio</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a> crowd - any ideas on weird, out of the ordinary projects that it could be fun to turn something like this into?</p>
Y⃒̸̷̝̜̙ͥͥͥngmar<p>Bill Cliton (our coffee grinder, duh) was making some screeching sounds.</p><p>Took him apart for a checkup, but all three stages of planetary gears are ok, some metal dust on the lowest from wear, perhaps too much wear.</p><p>I cleaned away the dirty grease and applied fresh and he grinds smoother now but still made a screech after getting warm.</p><p>Perhaps just too summerly for the poor old guy.
