Das Bild zeigt ein niedliches, kleines Stockentenküchen, das im ruhigen Wasser eines Teiches oder Sees schwimmt. Das Küken ist im Vordergrund des Bildes scharf fokussiert, während der Hintergrund leicht unscharf ist. Das Küken hat dunkles, flauschiges Gefieder mit hellgelben Bereichen an Kopf und Hals. Sein Schnabel ist klein und dunkel. Das Wasser ist grünlich und ruhig, mit einigen kleinen Blättern und Unebenheiten auf der Oberfläche. Das Licht scheint weich und natürlich zu sein, möglicherweise am Morgen oder späten Nachmittag. Mom merganser and her 2 fuzzy chicks once they've crossed the fast bit of the river. She was very proud of them.
