Feels like we're now firmly in the "desperation" phase for companies who have sunk a ton of cash into AI which nobody asked for. They're frantically trying to justify that spend in via evidence of "user engagement" in any way they can.

I'm sure we're all seeing increasing pushiness and use of dark patterns to force use of AI e.g. WhatsApp searchbar now being "Ask Meta AI or Search"

So #GenAI is stupid as shit and barely works, it's predicated on infringement, it's destroying the Internet, it's destroying the planet, when the bubble pops it's likely going to materially harm a lot of people so if you come up in here excited about it or adding it to stuff or doing things to make it easier to use: fuck you.

@blabberlicious Every video is going to require either a digital signature proving it existed before #genAI or a digital proof embedded in the video proving it's not generated.

(As for the latter: With a pair of RGB+IR cameras and an IR projector, and for a scene with sufficient geometric optical complexity, it should be possible to create a video proving each frame was recorded within a time window shorter than the fastest theoretically possible time to generate it.)

The thing about this is, I worked for bosses in the 1990s who'd spend an afternoon goofing around with FileMaker Pro, and then tell their entire staff they made a "database" that had to be put into "production" ASAP. My belief then was that the boss person went golfing with one of their equally-uninformed boss buddies, heard a bunch of tall tales about some software or another, and then had to mimic what their buddy did so they could brag next time.

This looks like that, except the outputs are creepier.
