@JoeWynne Before this #monsterdon if you'd told me the dude's stage name was word play (Dowel Rod, bc scrawny dude) I'd have believed it but Wikipedia says that's his real name, kind of.

There was actually a name shortage caused when Roderick Andrew Anthony Jude McDowall had his birth certificate signed. 3 other dudes in his village had to go by "oi, you!" for their entire childhood as a result.

@Taweret

I'll just note that Krull needs to watched solely for its fantastic over-the-top score.

This is James Horner's masterpiece. He essentially put **everything** into this, firing on all cylinders right from the start of the opening credits.

Wrath of Khan was simply the first draft, and it is no small source of irony and sadness that movie ended up being far better known.

(also w.r.t. the proposition that a good score can make up for any number of other shortcomings, this movie is an important data point)

On Sunday a number of people gather in front of their computers to watch an old monster movie. Sometimes the movie is good or at least significant.

But usually, the movie is bad. But enjoyably bad because of the jokes and ironic comments that people post.

In Chicago it begins at 8 pm. There is a vote on Monday for the next movie. Discussions are tagged with the hashtag #monsterdon.

(Edited for a typo and a change of heart with a punctuation choice.)

Je vois souvent passer le hashtag #monsterdon, mais même en regardant les posts concernés, je n'arrive pas à déduire de quoi il parle. Est-ce que quelqu'un peut éclairer ma lanterne ?

This Sunday at 9pm Eastern it's #MONSTERDON the weekly monster movie watch party! Join the rest of the Fediverse as we watch a bad movie and toot about it!

This week we're watching KRULL (1983), a high fantasy flop featuring myth, magic, and an impossibly young Liam Neeson.

The flick's available on Tubi, or you can download it from Archive.org right over here: archive.org/details/krull.-198

See you Sunday!
