Republicans hate the idea that they may have to live within the earth's natural limits. Their cult rejects science because of bronze age myths.

But de-funding science and continuing to use five year's worth of resources every year hoping a sky fairy will fix it later is stupid, and irresponsible. And a lie.

No magic solution exists to our own greed and selfishness.

Centralized power generation being distributed over a large area is no longer smart, was never sustainable, and is now a big problem for expanding communities.

But profiteers don't' make money off local energy distributed locally via mesh networks of rooftop and small solar, residential wind, and other sustainable sources.

Their greed is limiting our options.

Admittedly not quite as bad as the time we bought a few thousand ethernet switches from Cisco. Each shipped with a US power cord in the box and an additional UK one as we'd specified the UK variant 🙄

We had a discussion with our account manager re. their eco responsibilities, and they took the US cords back.

In all fairness, Cisco are much better these days with bulk packaging and not using plastics. Plus they take back all the packaging for larger orders.

Epic #sustainability fail: we've just bought 100x wifi access point mounting brackets from Tripp-Lite.

ballicom.co.uk/tripp-lite-enbr

It's literally a right-angle metal bracket. Incredibly tough and no moving parts.

But each one comes in it's own cardboard box with foam packaging, and a 16 page paper booklet contained in a plastic ziploc bag!

So now we have 100 plastic ziploc bags to get rid of, along with 100 cardboxes, 100 paper booklets, and 200 bits of foam packaging. All shipped from the US 🙄

Hallo @alxsim good morning and greetings from Uganda, am very happy to join this server and glad to see you as the admin.

I honestly respect your busy situation because am fully aware that administering a server may not be that easy as it seems.

Am reaching out to kindly ask you if we can have a brief discusion about #Ecology and #Sustainability especially their promotion in both schools and communities, just as associated with my org ( @ehsenvironmentalclub1 )

Wat do u think about this Alex?

When are we going to standardise lithium ion battery sizes, like we did with nickel battery sizes, so that instead of having to throw away whole devices when they stop holding charge we can just replace them with another of a standard size?

I think my portable speaker's rechargeable battery is probably not going to last too much longer. I use it every day. But how can it make sense to throw away a whole portable speaker when only the battery is the problem??
