I'm heading out now to help some Saanichton farmer friends who need extra hands to prep some new crop beds & transplant a few trays of food plants. It's already very hot outside. I've packed extra water to stay well hydrated while working on the farm fields this morning. Packed a banana & 2 hard-boiled eggs for my snacks
Our next newsletter will discuss something that maybe you've been thinking about (but probably not): raising chickens in a dryland environment. What aspects of care are different? How do chickens fit into a regenerative project? What alternatives to chickens are there and what differences are there in the niche they fill?
If your land is not arid or dryland, but you are concerned about increasing temperatures and more frequent droughts, some of the care information in this post may be useful as your environment changes in the near future.
I hope to release this early this week, but don't forget to subscribe so that you don't miss it in your inbox.
And please consider subscribing at our supporter tier for fun gifts twice a year and access to additional information - this month I'll be releasing a delightful recipe for paid subscribers only. We could use your support to keep this space going. Thank you!

Jeffrey St Clair posted this clip and writes:
The Secretary of Agriculture thinks that she can mass deport all immigrant farm workers and replace them with automation and people forced to work to keep their Medicaid..."I can’t underscore enough. There will be no amnesty. The mass deportations will continue. And we move the workforce towards automation and 100% American participation and with 34 million able-bodied people on Medicaid we should able to do this fairly quickly.”
I picked some green & yellow #beans from our gardens this morning. I will fry them up, for part of the lunch that I'm making for my Mom, in a couple of hours.
Some #figs are ready to harvest.

I grow 4 kinds of #sorrel on year round basis - common garden sorrel, Arctic dock, Belleville sorrel & Patience dock. The assorted sorrel salad greens pots are moved into small greenhouse in Winter. I do succession sowing every 2 weeks for continous harvest. I let the strongest plants go to seed & use those seeds to grow more.
Africa: Landless and Locked Out - Young Farmers Struggle for a Future: [UN News] Agricultural land is more than just a resource to produce food - for many older adults around the world, a land deed is the only safety net they have as they enter their old age. As a result, they hold onto it tightly. http://newsfeed.facilit8.network/TLkBNN #Agriculture #LandRights #YoungFarmers #FoodSecurity #SustainableAgriculture
