Sun Rising through Vapour (1807) by English Romantic painter J. M. W. Turner (1775-1851). As a study of a calm, smooth sea, this picture was a departure from the wild storms of Turner’s previous marine paintings. The boats and figures recall the work of Dutch painters, an influence acknowledged by the picture’s later title, Dutch Boats, when it was exhibited in Turner’s gallery in 1810.

Had a great sail today to the second island. Needed to time the trip around some strong currents— check out the green navigation buoy (a “can”) in the left pic leaning over in the current. Arrived to a gorgeous harbor. Too crowded for me— I chose to anchor outside the harbor. Tomorrow we sail to another island! #sailing #ocean #NewEngland
