@NigelTufnel I hear some Ty Tabor in there, and that’s most definitely a compliment. 😎👍

@jeffzugale thanks for the listen and comment. I’m gonna have to revisit his discography now 🎸😀

@NigelTufnel can’t go wrong with Gretchen Goes To Nebraska 😎👍

@NigelTufnel
Very nice! And your description is spot on! 😆

@baronvonj Thanks, Baron! The description came from my 15 yo son - teenagers are so quick with the sick burn

@NigelTufnel this is really good. Evokes some King’s X and that is a high compliment.

@woolie Thanks, Woolie! I’ve got a catalogue of Ty Tabor to explore now and am glad to know of his work

@NigelTufnel @strayhorse STIHL

But seriously, I’m super impressed with the bass tone. Any tricks there, or is it just a good sounding bass?

@RyanHyde @strayhorse Thanks, Ryan. The bass is a distorted groove monster that makes the song. It’s a virtual session player in Logic Pro so I can only take credit for configuring its parameters. I started using Logic Pro recently for its session players and it’s helped me finish songwriting ideas with better bass and keyboard parts than I could perform on my own.

@NigelTufnel @strayhorse Gotcha, yeah I use the session drummers pretty often as I don’t gave a drum kit and couldn’t play one if I did. At least when I’m writing demos for the band - our songs have a live drummer recorded of course.

No shame there. It’s all about having fun and enjoying the process

@RyanHyde @strayhorse It’s amazing tech for sure. Once I completed configuring the chords to follow, I dropped the bass in and out came that groovy fuzz bass line. It was a pleasure to track the guitars over that - I agree that in the absence of live musicians it really is fun 🤩

@NigelTufnel Wow, that’s awesome tone. Good driving groove, love the width and how guitar left enters at about 13 seconds in. Great work!

@strayhorse Thanks, Eric! I appreciate the listen. Yep the guitar coming in on the left was a choice from a later take that worked well.

@NigelTufnel missed this earlier. The riff at around 2:00 reminds me of part of Machine Gun, like ABDBGE, if it's in E.
I've been digging the talk around tunings.

@eyesquash Yes! Totally inspired by Machine Gun. In fact the section on the play through chart is titled ‘Machine Gun’. I wanted a groove in the root chord after the bridge and first thought of Stranglehold but out came Machine Gun when noodling.

@NigelTufnel
Love that descending chord progression and then the way you derived the riff out of it. Great work! 🤘🏻

@GuitarSith Thank you, Alan! It means much to have you listen and comment. Finding the descending Dm7 chord progression started the journey.

@NigelTufnel
It's a very cool progression and resolves beautifully. The riff that you then build out of it really gives it some power too. You're definitely getting into some Kashmir type stuff, some nice eastern instrumentation and it could really build out into something.

@GuitarSith my wife once asked “Don’t your songs have vocals?” lol 😝

@NigelTufnel
I’m the worlds slowest lyricist I think, I can struggle for years trying to come up with the perfect lyric. Then my roommate always says “why did you add words, it just spoils it.” 😂
