@BobLefridge #Dunedin resembles what the slippery, destructive UK Tories did. The #hospitals get underfunded to a ridiculous extent. As departments close, equipment is sold off to private companies for ridiculous low amounts close to zero (on the quiet), and essential A&E departments get closed causing people to travel further.

Underfunding and thus harming population is part of right wing psychopathy, also used to make privatisation seem like an only option 'solution' rather than exploitation.

Our buildings need sci-fi retrofitting with air polishers.
It's a charity thing to do I think. Funny tech, potentially cheap, needs:
- connection to buildings where people we don't want to brain damage etc are
- the impeller well housed outside, having more machines around needs to be done carefully...
- electrics, ducting, fed with a big sheet of n95 filter stuff somewhere sometimes.
I'm free-ish. Who wants to help?

Sounds like our Dunedin mayor has decided to not seriously contest the upcoming election.
From the ODT this morning: Dunedin Mayor Jules Radich has told councillors he has no problem with the government’s plan to cut a third of intensive care unit beds from the city’s new hospital and has "no intention" of fighting the move.

The ODT reported yesterday the coalition's intention to cut the number of ICU beds in the new Dunedin hospital from 30 to 20. This is despite the original design having 30 ICU beds on opening. Both plans have options to expand to 40 beds.

Noted physician & mathematician Simeon Brown told the ODT yesterday that reducing beds from 30 to 20 meant the total number of beds had not changed. He actually said that.

The old hospital has 20 ICU beds.

The big brick chimney on Dunedin's historic gasworks building is looking decidedly dodgy. Cracks have appeared, likely caused by last month’s 6.8 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Southland.

The site is closed for a week while engineers assess the damage.

Dunedin cat owners... does anyone's cat use Hill's Urinary Care cat food? Since my cat departed, the rest of this 3.85kg bag is surplus to my needs.

My scales weigh the remaining product at 2.54kg (including bag) which means it’s around two thirds full. These cost a humungous $143.85 from Pet Doctors but it’s looking for a good home for a bargain $50. Or barter with me.

Note: this is veterinary-prescribed food and is not suitable as general cat food.

Any sightings of a red evinci falcon e-bike with pride stickers taken from a shed in City Rise some time in the last few days please get in touch. And consider giving the person who took it a stern talking to if possible.
The owner is a bit upset, not only having lost their primary mode of transport, but also having to clean up the turd that was left in place of their bike.

I arrived in Dunedin a few days before embarking on my cruise to the Ross Sea and Antarctica; I didn't want to risk delayed flights. I spent the days exploring—visiting the train station, eating in local cafes and pizza places. I stayed in a pleasant hotel near the Octagon. It would be my last few nights sleeping on dry land for three weeks.

Kuo VadisA few days in Dunedin. — Kuo VadisOn Sunday I’ll be headed back to Antarctica, this time approaching from the Ross Sea on the opposite side of the continent. It’s where Robert Falcon Scott, Ernst Shackleton, and Roald Amundsen all based themselves on their attempts to be the first man to reach the South Pole. Roald succeeded, Scott

The Dunedin hospital rebuild has been sitting idle for the last year while National figure out a way to turn it into a PPP and burden future generations with expensive debt.

However a small worm which has invaded the inpatient building site may bring plans to a screeching halt. The ngāokeoke, or New Zealand velvet worm is now widespread throughout the site and there's talk of DOC turning the area into a sanctuary.

As soon as you see the ODT headline, "Cr criticises mural, organiser ‘lost for words’", you know exactly who it'll be.

Yep. Dunedin's saddest snowflake, anti-vax Councillor Lee Vandervis, spouts nonsense again.

The mural was designed by school pupils who won a design competition. Cr. Angry says rainbows & native birds are "woke", "activist-designed" & represent "a crass ideology".

Poor Lee. It must suck to be a complete arsehole.
