"The fact that there's a small number of companies that make an enormous amount of profit off endangering us and our future, and that actively, historically covered up that information, that should have a lot of people very pissed off." >>

@davidho Issue is always: for petroleum and gas companies, these costs are externalities. They continue to benefit, to top it off, from a 1.3 trillion dollar per year subsidy. Over one trillion dollars! Plus another 6 trillion dollars in indirect subsidies.

The presence of his son & #TiffanyTrump on a luxury yacht owned by international billionaire executives is a measure of how hard it is to tell where the interests of #government end & the #Trump family begins.

Career diplomats, #US allies & even some members of Trump’s inner circle have become concerned as #Boulos has conducted what at times has been freewheeling diplomacy in #Lebanon, in the Democratic Republic of #Congo & beyond.

The yacht, the Phoenix 2, is a floating palace with two helipads, a swimming pool & an 18-foot bronze figurehead of a flaming phoenix rising from its bow. It is not available to charter. But when it last was, it rented for over $1.4 million per week, with the listing highlighting an Art Deco interior & custom Steinway piano.

#MassadBoulos traveled to #Libya in July as the #State Dept’s senior #Africa adviser. But as he talked to #energy executives & #government leaders, his other position was no less important. He was also the father-in-law of President #Trump’s daughter #TiffanyTrump.

That family connection was so significant that some Libyan officials had privately taken to calling him “Abu Tiffany,” Arabic for “Tiffany’s father.”

"We're not trying to get off fossil fuels. We're still getting into them. All this talk of transition is fraud. We are still opening new coal projects, we are still opening new gas projects, while talking about decarbonising."

Fossil Fuels: "The cost of inaction will always outweigh the cost of action."

"One and a half million Australians are at risk from sea levels rising by 2050 unless climate change can be limited, Australia’s first national climate risk assessment has warned. "

"Heatwave deaths in Sydney, for example, would rise by more than 400 per cent under a 3C scenario, and would still double under 1.5C scenario."
