I just saw another video on the adjective/article/noun endings in German and how they're kind of all over the place. And although it was mentioned, I feel like people both teaching and learning miss the overarching pattern to all of this:

The noun segment has to convey, as early as possible, the gender and case of the noun.

If you have article+adjective+noun, then the article should transfer that information ("dem", "eines",..). In that case, the adjective reverts back to its secondary/default? ending. That information was already given, no need to repeat yourself. If you DON't have an article, then your adjective ending needs to carry the weight. And that's it, that's the pattern that (I think) all of these have.

So ideally, your thought process isn't memorizing and indexing into an insane five-dimensional table- it should be: "where is case/gender expressed? do i have articles?" and then go from there.

(As usual, not an expert, discuss/correct in replies, yada yada)

As Germany is more and more shifting to the far right and will have the Trumpist Merz as chancellor in a few weeks, it's probably a good idea to learn some German phrases (I gave myself permission to occupy the image and inserted a new text)
