Interesting comparisons here:
Last fall SEPTA consistently had a daily ridership of 790,000 and its operations budget for 2024 was $4,647,000 a day, for an average rider cost of about $5.90 per ride -- significantly better than other agencies of similar sizes.
New York’s MTA has a rider cost of about $8.71, Boston’s MBTA is $9.03, and Chicago’s RTA is about $10.04.m, and San Jose’s VTA a whopping $17.86 per rider cost.

Love to see #PublicTransit getting involved in the #TeslaTakedown movement!

"Tesla on ‘self-driving’ gets stuck on train track and hit by train"

"According to the fire alerts in Berks County, a Tesla Model 3 drove around a train track barrier near South Hull Street and Columbia Avenue and got stuck in the tracks."

So, maybe it's really just Tesla doing an AI self-own, but I'm still here for it.

When I was a kid my mother would take me on the bus. The bus had a sign "For a faster ride, move to the back of the bus."

My kid mind wondered if this meant the back of the bus moved faster than the front of the bus. I quickly realized that wasn't possible, so I guessed that it meant that it would feel faster if you sat in the back than the front.

It took me years to realize this was an efficiency matter, not one of physics or perception.

DATE CHANGE for solarpunk hangout! Instead of Thursday May 29, it will be Friday May 30 at 8pm EST / 5pm PST / 2am in Berlin (sorry Christina...) My apologies for the eleventh-hour switch; I hope this doesn't put anyone out.

Solarpunk topic this time is public transit - what's it like where you are? what do you wish it was like? do you have any fave places for public transit and what makes them so great? what would it take to make it great in your neck of the woods, do you think?

Again, no pressure to answer any of the above q's; they're there for topics of convo if you'd like to use them or not.

I'll be posting a link a bit before the hangout on our Patreon, which you can join for as little as $1USD per month at patreon.com/solarpunkpresents. The hangout is available to all supporters 😀 Hope to see some of you there!

#Cowichan Valley residents adapt to life without #PublicTransit as strike enters 4th month.
#PeopleWithDisabilities , #students & #seniors struggle with the lack of options for #transportation in the Cowichan Valley.

#UniforLocal114 & #UniforLocal333BC the union representing 44 drivers, mechanics& cleaners, have been on strike since Feb. 8. They are advocating for wages similar to their counterparts in Victoria, better access to washroom facilities & more consistent breaks. #Workers have since voted against a new contract with their employer, #TransDev & the strike reaches 105 days, there is still no end in sight. As a result of the strike, #transit in the Cowichan Valley has been on hold, interfering with where and how people move through the community. #HandyDart services are still available but only for medical appointments related to renal dialysis, cancer treatment & multiple sclerosis.

I'm always amazed that the folks in cars complain about a #bikeLane but never realize that more bikes means fewer cars in front of them slowing down traffic.

Just like urban buses and trains should be paid for by folks in #SUV, its the #car drivers that get the benefit of more folks taking public transit not the poor person trying to find exact change.

We don't need better ways to collect the fare, we need a more fair way to fund the #publicTransit; system; #bus, #train and #bike.
