I've been using @yunohost for about 8 years. It's great! Stable enough to just about be boring, but does pretty much everything I need. I'm no developer, so I appreciate all the good work done into helping track down and help you through many of the common technicalities of self hosting, via the diagnosis tools, especially with selfhosted email.

I mainly use it for Nextcloud, Email and Matrix, although I have a few other apps such as Tandoor for family recipes.

I've run it both on old PC's at home and on VPS's. Definitely solves more problems for me!

People: "Why are you switching to Linux? Windows has so many video games!"

Me in 2025: "I'm self-hosting federated social media."

People: "What is the Fediverse and Mastodon? Oh, you write your blogs there? I'll join your Fediverse invite link later."

Just saw notes about which is apparently a type thing. Anyone have experience with it? I like Nextcloud, but it's a fucking pain to manage and keep working, especially on shared hosting. I'm steeling myself to abandon my (increasingly broken) shared-hosting NC installation to put it on a home computer, as long as I can convince myself the security of doing that is OK; I've heard that with the all-in-one Docker image it can be.

If OpenCloud is a better user/maintenance experience than Nextcloud, I'd happily give it a shot and maybe switch

hey @cblgh and friends, do you have some suggestion or recommendation for chat software similar to Cerca?

We have a developer community on Telegram, but the Telegram anti-spam bot —which we never signed up for— is automatically restricting all our members who talk about .

So I'm thinking about something. Thought about a combination of Cerca and something for ephemeral chat.

Kids, I warn you: Don't do . It is extremely addictive! It will get you into a lot of trouble, while you're chasing the next high from seeing something go "online".

Instead, buy the services you need from the free market. Or – even better – use the corporate options out there that does not even take your money, but only require you to hand over intimate details about yourself and your life.
