@otte_homan not to mention your claims are evidently wrong because doesn't have sufficient bandwith to facilitate or hosting.

  • As for , a lot of it is systemically desired by governments regardless of technology used. Criminalizing or only benefits organized crime regardless where and prevents help and standards from being implemented or enforced.

Also "morals" are a bad gauge, because they are subjective and what some places declare as "morally correct" (i.e. state-sponsored murder for apostasy) is rightfully banned (aka. "death penalty") elsewhere.

The BlowerOtte Homan - remember Geordie (@otte_homan@theblower.au)@sylvie@gabriel.havfruefestning.com yeah Tor is a joke. It's slow crypto and the vast majority of its use cases are: - porn (like a secure crypto version of Rule 34) - drug trade - weapons trade - people trade (prostitution etc) - theft (movies, music, art) - terrorism (incl war, etc) - ... Show me a morally *good* use case or Tor. I'll wait. @kkarhan@infosec.space @alsternerd@akkoma.alster.space @Ember@blobfox.coffee @torproject@mastodon.social @tails@fosstodon.org @keepassxc@fosstodon.org

@otte_homan precisely!

Espechally since as Distro is intended to be used mostly by "" and to be their one-stop-solution to use and protect themselves online.

  • And isn't some "wallpaper generator" or something where "" is not a concern, but it's a aka. one of the few critical components where I expect every single line of code to be human-written and questioned before even being allowed into some development testing branch…

The Tor Project announced its annual State of the Onion event, done in two parts, the first on 12 November and the second on 10 December.

I've watched them for the last few years and they are great. Informative, well-prepared reports about impressive projects, all very much grounded in what is happening on and to the internet right now.

"It's easer, faster, cheaper, more resilient, private and secure to onboard woth + over @torproject / using @guardianproject @monocles / ..."

If it's easier, why isn't it as successful and used by the military etc? You seem to have dismissed video calls etc too. You could argue against that functionality for certain use cases, but it's become a core part of secure messaging over time. Maybe they just have different audiences.

I kind of agree on Moxie's reliance on Intel SGX though. Even at its inception it worried me. But it's not part of the core E2EE protocol so could potentially be replaced.

Infosec.SpaceKevin Karhan :verified: (@kkarhan@infosec.space)My [reservations](https://infosec.space/@kkarhan/114234551915193036) and [criticism](https://infosec.space/@kkarhan/114862595629371002) re: #Signal are not just valid, but the reality is *even worse than I thought*: - The fact that @signalapp@mastodon.world requires not only their shitty #Android #App, and a #PhoneNumber but literally won't allow people to use their shitty #Desktop-App unless they have an Android device with a camera pointed at it makes it utterly unuseable for certain users *who don't have a fucking #camera in their Android*… Seriously, do they expect folks to deal with that shit? - It's already worse in terms of #UX than #telegram and #discord and that too makes #XMPP+#OMEMO clients like @monocles@monocles.social / #monoclesChat & @gajim@fosstodon.org / #gajim easier and faster to onboard #TechIlliterates onto. - Whichever asshole decided that a *replacement for #SMS* should mandate #PII like a #PhoneNumber & not be natively cross-platform should be banned from doing any #tech in their life. Trying to circumvent this shit and helping folks with it makes me so fucking angry that I'm now explicitly refusing to support it! FIX THAT SHIT, @Mer__edith@mastodon.world, and if it means you need to kick some devs in their crouch then consider this a necessary *"investment"*… #sarcasm #TechSupport #TapesFromTechSupport #Enshittifucation #SignalSucks #TelegramSucks #Messengers

Ive been occasionally using the TOR Browser for bits and bobs, and I've found it's been taking longer and longer to establish a connection. Now it doesn't seem able to make one at all.

Are other people experiencing this? Do we know why it's happening? Is there a solution?
