Operating Superstars #Wiki progress - New articles and #Worldbuilding re-organizing organizations

An article was published about the clubs in the setting, which are informal groups based on shared interests or goals between its members, but don’t have their own headquarters.

📄 operatingsuperstars.miraheze.o

This is an idea I had a draft for before I began the wiki, but I kept waiting for the right time to publish it. I think it’s for the best that I waited until the wiki to publish this article otherwise it would’ve been tacked on to the Setting page which was already huge and lacks navigation links 😅

The distinction between clubs and teams that developed is part of a re-organization of the setting. Two groups that were previously teams were retconned to being clubs but this gives them more flexibility.

COSMOS got scaled down significantly from what it was before but this change opens up more options based on different aspects of the retrocomputing communities. COSMOS is based on the part that demonstrates old programs or hardware to show how they can still be useful and may also create new art and music with them.

Demoscene Derby is a new team based on the Demoscene and this club is based in performance art that participants often push themselves to their limits to create, akin to how demoscene productions are optimized for their hardware and push the hardware they use to their limits.

The Coding Circle is based on programming for hobbyist purposes and some of the 1970’s hobbyist OSes may be part of this club. It also has members that are modern OSes built for hobbyists.

TIMES is a club that exists more for story purposes to start investigating mysteries in the past, present or future. It’s not finalized yet if COSMOS would also gather historical records, but if not them, then TIMES would.

Operating Superstars Wiki · Clubs - Operating Superstars WikiClubs are groups that are similar to teams in that they are based on shared values, but where teams have their own headquarters and its members have duties to the...

Here's a collage of all 136 track cover arts I made!

It seems obvious in hindsight but a Tolkien Dwarves naming convention for an interstellar culture based around M class dwarf stars (and the occasional K class) was just staring me in the face.
Oh sure, Barnards Star and Wolf 359 have proper names but "HIP 86950" isn't exactly memorable.
So many red dwarfs out there....

#PennedPossibilities 638 — Is your SC more introverted or extroverted? Or do they fall somewhere in the middle?

Dante is an introvert. (Unless you get enough booze in him, of course.) He's a quiet, studious doctor who keeps to himself. Only his friend's know his true silliness. He's a man with a dry wit, good jokes, and will help wherever and however he can. Only the gang see that side of him. He's a kind, sweet, and caring friend.

Junk is a complete extrovert who would do /anything/ for anyone, whether it's deadly serious or something related to any fun escapades. He's a silly man, but he's also a fierce friend, so the "favor" doesn't matter. (He's similar to Dante in that respect.) He's always been extroverted as well. He's loud and proud. He's definitely the type to show up to a hostile takeover assignment (for a gang's territory) in a hot dog costume as well, so...

I could go into detail about the other characters but this post would end up being wicked long, so I'll refrain.

#PennedPossibilities 635 — Are there any specific cultural influences that shaped the world or characters in your story?

Many. Cultural influences play a significant role in shaping narratives and characters. I wanted to demonstrate an appreciation for diversity and invite the readers to explore the rich tapestry of (my) storytelling. (Ahem. I hope.)

I mean, I TRY to do that. The majority of us all do. That counts for something, right? Because diversity in all aspects is what I strive to get across and to showcase in my stories. Cyberpunk tales are no different. They're ripe for the picking. People of all different cultures, backgrounds, sexualities, money or status, walks of life, etc. They're are all there, and it's a beautiful mix of people, like a full-on cultural melting pot.

As for specific influences, I would have to say that I'm not really sure if I could stop and name any off of the top of my head. There are so many. Cyberpunk stories (like I already said) and science fiction fantasy tales are amazing that way. We can pull it all together, taking a little bit of everything to use. A variety of cultures can be found.

Here's just a few examples:
• Chinese
• African
• Italian
• Mexican
• Japanese

I think that's the beauty of it, finding inspiration from every walk of life and letting it guide and inspire your storytelling.

Anyone need a planet?

I'm working on another one to fine-tune my workflow but prefer real projects.

I'm using a simplified-science-based approach, inspired by & drawing from ideas of Experilous, #Worldbuilding Pasta, Artifexian, Worldbuilder's Corner, & Madeline James.

You'd get a GIMP (ick: ableist) file w/layers for maps of elevations, Jan/Jul rain & temp, climate zones & biomes, rock types & resource deposits, + more! Got species? Likely cradles of civilization.

#PennedPossibilities 634 — MC POV: How much do you value companionship? Do you always keep people around, or do you prefer to be alone?

Alexios: It isn't about what I want or what I value. My friends stay close, and they always have. We're a family, choom. I'm thankful for it, too. If that means that I value friendship and companionship, then I guess so—the answer's yes.
