At my age new friendships don't come easily. N is some 20 years older than I, a different generation. His father was a pilot in the RAF when my father was a young soldier in Hitler's army. His father died in the war, mine survived. We have become friends, a true privilege. This year N lost his son, to cancer. An old friend of N's had made a pair of woolen mittens for N, they were meant for his son. Today N gave these mittens to me as a gift. I cannot find the words.
