Ikea desktop. €40 for a 200 x 60 cm slab of "board on frame". That's a thin frame of veneered MDF supported by a cardboard structure.
As woodworker, one cringes at this stuff, but actually it is a) sufficiently strong for most desk purposes (not kitchen) b) saves a lot of material c) lightweight d) cheap!
Add your own legs or buy some, whatever.
Sure, could make one from real wood, but never at this price.
@yngmar I tried to use one as a computer desk and my elbows broke through it.
They were nice about replacing it, I paid a bit extra and got a solid wood one.
@Filomel Either you got a dodgy one or you have some mighty powerful elbows! :)
It carried this guy and he had to butt-slam it to break it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcMEat4BBx8&t=370s
@yngmar Elbow poke. Every day, all day, same spot. :) It was really impressively broken.
I would never buy that for my main desk again. Side furniture, sure.
