We are standing up for all who have been targeted because of speaking out and protesting. We are protesting the Trump regime’s illegal actions and cruel defiance of court orders and the rule of law. This event will happen in St. Paul on Wednesday, 4/16, from 3-6pm. The El Savadoran Consulate is at 60 Plato Blvd, St. Paul, 55107. We hope to see you all there. The Trump regime has sent hundreds of legal residents to CECOT, a massive Salvadoran prison. Here are some quick facts: El Salvador’s dictator has said those in the prison “will never leave”. NONE of the people the U.S. sent to the Salvadoran prison received a trial - and 90% have no criminal record. The prison is notorious for human rights abuses. People in this massive facility are forced into rooms with 100 other prisoners for 23 1/2 hours a day, on metal bunks with no mattresses. Some do not even get a bunk. Trump is using state terror and has created a concentration camp in El Salvador with the help of the El Salvadoran government. These are meant to be death camps for the innocent people that have been moved there illegally by Trump. The U.S. government has already paid $6 million to El Salvador for the use of its prison. We will stand for all of those who are being jailed without due process, including immigrants, student protesters, and anyone who speaks out against the Trump regime and is being targeted for their speech and right to protest. Saint Paul Minnesota It's a River Town There is no doubt about it, Saint Paul Minnesota is a river town and it gets its character and personality from the mighty Mississippi that runs through it. This image is from a recent outing with the "shudder to think" photography group. We were hoping and praying for a grand sunset but alas we were a little bit disappointed. But we were not too disappointed because we had an opportunity to spend some time with some good friends and time spent capturing wonderful images it's generally time well spent. Viewing St. Paul, Minnesota from the Robert Street Bridge offers a striking and memorable perspective of the city. As you stand on or cross the bridge, which spans the Mississippi River, you're greeted with a panoramic view that perfectly captures St. Paul’s blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty. Looking northwest from the bridge, the downtown skyline rises gracefully above the riverbanks, showcasing a mix of historic stone buildings, modern glass towers, and iconic landmarks like the First National Bank Building with its glowing red “1st” sign. Packed up my rolly-walker and went over to the rally at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul today. No camera on me bc I didn't know what kind of protest it was going to be, but it was packed! Easily 10k!

If I did have a sign it would've said, "It's So Bad Even The Spoonies Are Marching"

The Lies Have It: #XcelEnergy Wins Operating Extension for Nation’s 5th Oldest Nuclear Reactor

"I.F. Stone famously said, 'All governments are run by liars and nothing they say should be believed.' The aphorism applies well to #NuclearReactor operators, including Minneapolis-based Xcel Energy.

"The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (#NRC) has granted Xcel a second license extension for operating its 54-year-old #MonticelloReactor on the #MississippiRiver in #Minnesota. The decision will permit this GE jalopy, a #Fukushima clone, to run until it’s 80 years old — a dangerous feat never been done in the history of nuclear power. The NRC received over 3,000 public comments mostly critical of the extension, but the the commission has rubber stamped 87 of 92 similar requests, so call the NRC Never Really Concerned.

"The NRC nod is based partly on the commission’s Final Environmental Impact Statement (#EIS) for the re-licensing, even though the document confirms that Xcel repeatedly made false statements about its massive 2022-‘23 leak of #radioactive cooling water. According to a March 16, 2023 Associated Press (AP) story, Xcel’s first public response to the major leak was, 'There’s no danger to the public.' Xcel then proceeded to understate by more than half the leak’s actual volume, only estimating it was 400,000 gallons.

"Xcel eventually acknowledged that volume of the leak, from an old corroded underground pipe, was 829,000 gallons, and that the #groundwater plume of reactor cooling water — some of which would later reach the Mississippi River — had a radioactive footprint of some fourteen curies of #tritium — a very large amount. (For a reference, the 1979 partial reactor meltdown at Three Mile Island released an estimated 15 curies of gaseous radioactive iodine-131 to the Pennsylvania atmosphere. Other radioactive materials went into the Susquehanna River.)

"Xcel’s 829,000-gallon leak was always a direct threat to drinking water because — as the company’s own 2023 Annual Radioactive Effluent Release Report states on page 13 — 'It is assumed groundwater continuously flows to the river…' The Mississippi is the drinking water source for 20 million people, including #Minneapolis, #StPaul and their surrounding suburbs 37 miles downstream from the leaky reactor."
