40 years ago today, 2 September 1985, Strawberry Switchblade released their electro-pop, Hi-NRG-influenced cover of Dolly Parton's Jolene, augmented by Larry Adler's fabulous harmonica.

Despite considerable promotional push including a strawberry shaped picture disc, it failed to break the UK top 40. We'll be posting about it all this week.

It first appeared in the 1966 film of the same name, and was included on the #filmSoundtrack as "#TheGoodTheBadAndTheUgly (main title)", with #BrunoNicolai conducting the orchestra. A #coverVersion by #HugoMontenegro in 1967 was a pop hit in both the US and the UK. It has since become one of the most iconic scores in film history.

nachsingt. Oder besser: Die sich an seinem Werk vergreift.

Ein Egotrip der Eitelkeit.

Tut mir leid, ich habe (/hatte?) großen Respekt vor Blixa, aber das hier: Fail.

Insbesondere, wenn man diese EP dem Kreativfeuerwerk gegenüberstellt, was seine ehemaligen Kollegen Axel Hacke oder FM Einheit heutzutage machen. Ja "ehemalig", Hacke scheint auch raus zu sein in Sachen Einstürzende Neubauten ☹️. Woran das wohl liegt?

Wenn ich die Wahl hätte zwischen einem David Bowie singenden Blixa und einem Nachrichtensprecher, dann den Nachrichtensprecher. Der trägt immerhin ein ehrliches Gesicht.
