RaricaNow had their demands met by the Edmonton Pride Festival Society, and a #Trans March is being held downtown - the first of its kind in the whole of #Alberta! After everybody claiming divisiveness on RaricaNow's part - for standing up for QTBIPOC in the face of racist queers and an increasingly transphobic legislative environment - this is just a piece of what they've been fighting for. But it is quite a significant piece nonetheless.

Bring a friend. Bring a family member. Bring yourself. And above all: do not forget who made this possible to begin with: Black trans people. Don't you dare forget it, and don't you dare erase it.

Additionally: there will be an art build for the trans march, on August 13th (Wednesday), at 4PM.

I have it! A hard copy Fringe program. Yes, the Edmonton Fringe Festival website has all the details. But there are 40 separate venues this year, and 233 shows. So it helps to be able to thumb through the catalogue, and circle the “must sees”. Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the largest theatre festival in Canada - and the first and finest Fringe in N. @ned This is Redlining. A racist, segregation practice that was observed in both Canada and the US.

I think the practice was much more well documented in the US mainly because the practice was highlighted in an obtuse fashion with Brown v. Board of Education in 1954. A black child was denied enrolment to a school that was closer to her home because it was a school in a white neighbourhood and was effectively a white school. So the public school system enrolled the child to a black school much farther away.

This triggered a constitutional challenge against what was a practice of segregation. What this revealed was a wide spread, systematic practice of banks, realtors, and other service providers that effectively pinned people by race and forced them to live in specific neighbourhoods. But, like many things systemically broken about the US, the Supreme Court simply acknowledged the issue without providing any meaningful solution.

Safe to say that the practice continues in various forms on both sides of the border into the modern day.

#Edmonton: A 21-yr-old woman was standing under a tree in Callingwood South, and a lightning bolt hit the tree and seems to have arched to hit her, causing a cardiac arrest.

She also has burns up her abdomen and across her shoulder where a sweater she was wearing was singed and burned away.

She is presently in ICU.
